This game was played on the all weather as the pitch was unplayable after Friday night's rain.Mayfield started brightly and got on top in the early exchanges. The midfield area was been controlled by Vinnie Lonergan and Shane Duggan.After 15 mins, Mayfield went behind after they failed to cut out a ball over the top. A cross from the right was finished by Carraigaline's center forward. Mayfield's head's dropped as they were well on top during this period. Mayfield continued to press and forced a corner on the left. Liam Horgan swung in a precise cross whch was met by by the advancing Shane Duggan.He connected brilliantly and fired a bullet of a header into the back of the Carraigaline's net. 1-1. Pa O'Driscoll and Eoin Connolly were continuing to keep the Carraigaline back 4 busy.After 35 mins, Mayfield broke down the middle, the ball was fed to the on rushing Eoin Connolly who jinked past 1,2,3 tackles. All of a sudden he was through on goal with just the keeper to beat. Eoin clipped the ball past the advancing keeper to put Mayfield 2-1 up. The team talk at half time was to play the 2nd half the same as the first.Stale mate in the 2nd half and Mayfield went out 2-1 winners.It was a great team performance from Mayfield, not just the 11 on the starting line up. Best for Mayfield on the day were goal keeper Liam Connery, Des Mallon and Ian McCarthy.The midfield of Shane Duggan and Vinnie Lonergan controlled the game through out and Eoin Connolly added the bit of class in front of goal. Overall a good day at the office.
