Our annual Golf Classic was held this year in the marvellous settings of Lee Valley Golf & Country Club
on Friday May 16th last. Despite having it clash with the Celebrity Bainisteoir match in Dublin, we still
had 31 teams participating on the day. The event was ran by the executive committee and was co-ordinated
by the golf course’s Reservations Manager, Linda Atkinson who ensured the smooth running of everything
on the day. All golfers commented on the fantastic condition of the golf course and it was a joy to play on,
even if my first few shots don’t show that !! The food served in the clubhouse afterwards was superb as no
doubt the Chairman and Treasurer can testify to, seeing as they helped themselves to several servings
throughout the day. That evening the prizes were presented back in the Ashburton bar, where there was a
considerable turnout, one which no doubt our club sponsor, Tom McCabe, appreciated as did we. Not only
would we like to thank all those who put in teams on the day but also to everyone who sponsored tee
boxes, to Ted Nolan, our club photographer, who was busy snapping photos from behind the trees and bushes
all over Lee Valley and lastly, to Tom McCabe who also kindly sponsored the prizes again this year.
